buffalogals,

There is a great wine shop near the 17th street hotels called Total Wine.  We fly into Ft. Lauderdale the day before the cruise and trek on over to Total Wine and buy wine for the cruise.  We get it packaged up so we can bring it on the ship easily.  This is totally allowed by HAL.  We drink it out on our balcony and bring a bottle every night for dinner....there is a $15 corkage fee but it's well worth it for a nice bottle.

If you buy a lot ($200 or more) they will deliver to your hotel or to the cruise ship...you can order on-line before the cruise.

 Enjoy!

This will be our 9th Olivia trip.  We started way back in the beginning of the trips.  We have to say that Holland America ships are, by far, the best ones Olivia has used.  We are from Florida, so having the port within driving distance makes it easy.  As a result of the Olivia trip, we have met friends from around the country - with whom we share deep friendships beyond the trips.  NM, WY, ME, MA, LA to name a few as well as other parts of FL.  We went with 17 friends on the Mexican cruise last October, and this one has been a long wait - but worth it.  Looking forward to a relaxing week away from the everyday world into the Olivia world.

Hi, welcome aboard...to answer your questions, hair dryer yes, also soaps, cremes, shampoo, but basic depending upon your cabin choice.  Irons, no...biggest ship fear is fire, but no worry we'll all be slightly wrinkled.  Packing tip is to roll t-shirts or use tissue paper between layers and put socks, underwear, & rolled t's around the edges of your suitcases to keep folded clothes from sliding about which causes the wrinkling. Don't know if Westerdam has self laundry rooms with irons or not, some of HAL's ships do.  Coffee, ever important, is available thru room service along with other breakfast items.  All you owe is the tip for delivery.  Don't recall toothpaste being available in cabin, but it can be purchased in the ship's stores (at a higher than usual price).  Same is true with water, you'll be supplied water and soft drinks in your room, but at a more than nominal fee.  We always pack about six small 10oz bottles in our suitcases and pick up more in the ports as needed.  You can bring wine on board, no problem, but if you take it to the dining room, there will be a "corkage fee" of about $15.  I believe a small amount of beer can be brought aboard also.  Liquor is the no-no although some say they have never encountered problems or confiscation; others use the above mentioned water bottles, if you get my drift.  I didn't check your home base, but I can assure you, even if you're flying in it is worth the stop to pick up water and wine to bring aboard cost wise...but then again we are admittedly frugal.  Look forward to meeting everyone.  Karen

Hi All,

Does anyone know if the ship rooms are similarly equipped like hotel rooms in terms of basic toiletries, i.e. shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste? What about a blow dryer, iron, coffee maker? Also, I've been looking through the posts on the sports and music cruise site and noticed that it's possible to check in on-line on the HA site...and that you are allowed to bring your own bottled water and wine on board. Can anyone verify?Paradise

Welcome to all first time cruisers. :)  This will be my third and my partner's second.  We booked this cruise while we were on the Mexican Riviera cruise last October so it's been a loooooooooooong wait.  We have been dodging hurrican bullets here in Florida for the last month or so and are ready for them all to be gone.  Hopefully, there will be something left of the poor Turks and Caicos when we get there.  Regardless of where we go, it will be a blast!  We didn't book any excursions on our last trip and still had a great time just meeting all the gals on the cruise and vegging on deck.  We are staying at the host hotel.  We'll arrive Friday night.  We're driving home after the cruise as we only live four hours away.  I suggest you bring business cards with your email addressess, etc.  You will meet so many great people that you will want to keep in touch with them.  Look forward to meeting and greeting everyone in November.  Cindy

Hi all - We finally got everything booked - so it's OFFICIAL!  We're going on this cruise with y'all!  We can't wait - we're first-time cruisers and first-time Olivia vacationers - we're darn excited about both!!

Where is everyone staying before and after?  I know a few are staying at the host hotel - we opted to stay next door at the Yankee Clipper the night before the cruise - save a few dollars and easy to walk over for the pre-cruise gathering!  After HOURS and HOURS of research - we finally decided on that one the 22nd, and the Holiday Inn Express by the Port Everglades for the 30th - they'll shuttle us free to the airport in the morning.  If anyone else is staying up by the host hotel and are coming in Saturday afternoon, we'd be more than happy to share cab fare!  We're probably getting there later than most - but ya never know!

Now - to start shopping for stuff to wear!!  We're debating the 'formal' nights, but figure it'll be way too hot for tuxes!  So we'll come up with something else!

How's everyone else's plans going?

Hello everyone!

My partner, Cheryl and I just booked this cruise.  This will be our 2nd Olivia cruise.  We were also on the Mexican Riviera cruise last October.

We are very excited to be traveling on another Olivia vacation.  Looking forward to enjoying the cruise with all of you.

Hey Everyone ~

My GF & I are first time Olivia cruise go'ers, and we are very excited about this vacation. We are coming from Cali, and look forward to meeting new peeps, and having a blast.  We are hoping to make the pre-cruise meet/greet, but if we can't, we will definitely see everyone on the LIDO deck for the meet & greet.
