TD5159,Darlene, DIANAG AND AMBANDES, thank you and congrats to all of you. They always say everything gets better with age, and I feel like thats true with our partnership.
BarbG- Thanks also, good to know someone else that's a novice at this too..I noticed your in one of my favorite states, I'm originally from Clarkston.
Well anyhoo..let me answer some questions:
Your Host Hotel is right next door to the Horton Plaza shopping center, which is about 6 stories high with 193 stores. The restaurants and food court are on the top floor.
Or 3-4 blocks to the south of the hotel is the Gaslamp Quarter Historical Area. Every restaurant cuisine you can imagine is available, as well as shopping. It's truly the Heart of our nightlife in San Diego.
And if you'd like to venture a little further, go west on Broadway to the piers, turn left on Pacific Highway and walk right into Seaport Village (which claims to have everything under the sun). Open 10am to 10pm they have 50 specialty shops and restaurants. Or you can walk along the bay.
Or you might like to try my favorite, down at the piers you'll find the San Diego Ferry that will take you to Coronado Island ($6.00 round trip) leaves every hour, it's a half hour ride. You will be dropped off at the Market Place where they have shopping and dining. Restuarants: Peohe's and Bay Beach Cafe(my favorite, fish&chips to die for) dine while overlooking the waterfront and the San Diego skyline. After dinner walk along the Boardwalk or take your shoes off and walk in the sand.
And one last thought, taking the trolley which is also just west of the hotel, the Blue Line will take to Little Italy or Old Town(Mexican restaurants with shops in a village setting), and this line also continues on to the Mission Valley Shopping Center(149 stores). Costing anywhere from $1.50 to $3.00 one way depending how many stops you make.
Concerning the beaches: I'm sorry to say none with-in walking distance. But here's a run down on the well known ones.
Mission Beach which also has an Amusement Park.
Ocean and Pacific Beach (Boardwalk and shops)
La Jolla Shores the most beautiful
Blacks Beach (clothing optional) steep climb down and for climb up, if you're like me older and out of shape you'll need oxygen and air support standing by.
And of course Mission Bay, miles and miles of walking along the shore.
I hope this will give you a few ideas on what to do while you're here. If you have anything specfic you want me to look into just ask.
