Don't forget to barter a bit.  As they are not through the cruise lines, you should be able to get them to lower their prices a bit. -hedge on that $70 per hour additonal charge especially.

I live in a tourist port in America, where everything is more expensive...and our 1/2 day, 4 hour deep sea fishing trips are only $59 each.  -no other surcharges, for larger chartered boats (20-50 people).  A full day is like $90. 

A fully chartered smaller boat for 6 people is usually ~$600-$800 for the whole day.  That is $100-$133/each total for 8 hours, which sounds like what they are offering.  That's what you would pay for just 3 hours with them.

If that is just bottom fishing, that is way over priced!  Of course, if it is heavy sport fishing, like for sailfish or shark, then that would be more justified -in my opinion only.

Of course, if you are landlocked and eager to fish, you will pay a fortune for the opportunity!  haha  -I know I probably would if I lived inland!  That is just one reason why I had to live at the beach!  I too am an avid fisherman!  We even have our own boat.  :)  Too bad everyone wasn't in port much longer, or I could take it over to the host hotel, which is right on the water, and take folks for rides!

I had in mind somewhere between 2-4 hours of fishing prolly in the morning if it works for you guys.  The way the rates work is this:  the per person rate is anywhere from a maximum of $35 per hour per person to a minimum of $20 per person per hour for the maximum group size of 6.  Then there is an additive group rate of $70 per hour that applies to the whole group for whatever duration you want here.

Lemme know if you think we should put together a group here.  Sounds like these folks are very flexible.

All the excursions listed at the Mahogany Bay site are exclusively reserved through your cruise ship.  SInce they are so new, HAL doesn't have dedicated listings yet of all these excursions, but they will be offering some, if not all, of them to us when we are able to book our excursions.

I expect that as soon as we get our booking numbers and can at least view the excursions we can book (even if we can't actually buy them yet), we should see this trip available to us.

It just looks like a fun, easy going experience!  We love to feed the birds at Busch Gardens, and this looks like you can do that too, and they also have bigger birds!  haha.  But when we ready about holding and playing with monkeys, we were both really giddy about that idea!  -and it looked like a mellow, easy going walk for Weaselboy to be able to enjoy too.

Glad to see we may have some Olivia company on that one.  It looks like many people are going to be snorkeling or diving, and we just aren't real big on that.  Living on the beach in Florida ourselves, the beach, snorkeling, and fishing things are activities we can do whenever we want to.  We want to do some really different things on our cruise!

We saw a fun little 1/2 day excursion that goes to a place where you can hold and play with monkeys!  It is a refuge that has a bunch of native animals, including parrots and other birds that you can handle too.  This is a tour/botanical garden jungle and animal refuge that goes at a slow pace, so perfect for us!  Walking with the cane doesn't seem like it will be a problem here at all!

Being a short excursion, it also lets me do the donations drop-off to the Roatan orphan homes too, as well as lets us play on the beach (taking the ski lift chair there and back!) as well!  We'll be busy in that little port!

Anyone else looking at the same excursion?

Anyone else interested in an offshore fishing session in Roatan with Victor Bodden tours (TripAdvisor rates 5 stars and #1 attraction on Roatan out of 32!!)?  These are smaller boats with a maximum of 6.  I wanna go but am pretty sure my partner will wimp out on me here and just wanna spend the day on the beach (nothing wrong with that either here! <grin>).  Can also be added to a number of other excursions offered by this group including a ZipnDip tour, private tour (you decide on the itinerary for a "best of Roatan" trip, glassbottom boat and/or snorkeling, Mayan jungle canopy, etc.

Any other fisherwomen out there??  Billing is hourly so duration would be totally up to us.  Cost varies based on the nbr of participants from $35 per hour per person to $20 per hour per person -plus- a $70 per hour fee for the group.

Lemme know if you're interested here!  Would like to squeeze this in with either the Magical Beach Chair or Cabana excursion as well for my partner ...

Paula - I'm glad that they could squeeze you in.  I'm looking forward to meeting someone who can dig out of 9' of snow. 

As of right now, the other ship in Mahogany Bay with us is one the Regent Seven Sea ships.  As I understand it, that's a high end cruise line and their ship only holds something like 500 people.  Luxury excursions are included in their trips, so there may or may not be many of them on the beach adjacent to the port. The Mahogany Bay port is at: http://www.mahoganybaycc.com/port-schedule.aspx    (Based on the Regent page, the ship is also scheduled to be with us in Costa Maya.)

  This topic is what I have been trying to suggest to gung ho Pierham.  ( who is very research/link savy about the best excursions). It may be that I am a somewhat cautious survivor but I do think it is worth consideration to think about the possible risks of being the focus of gueer girl homophobia in the jungles of Latin America on small group tours .  And yes, not that I am a total weenie- I do feel a certain level of protection and excitement in being part of Lezzie O group excursions.  Deb

The only warning about taking an excursion on your own vs. Olivia/Holland America…just always make sure you make it back to the ship on time (1/2 hour before the “All Aboard”) or she will leave without you!

Another good thing about booking thru Olivia/Holland America is you get to go with just the company of Olivia women (there have been a few exceptions…but not the usual!).
