It is said (in a guide to modern bridge published in London in 1901) that a group of British soldiers posted to Istanbul during the Crimean War invented a card game. They would cross the Galata Bridge nightly to play it in a coffeehouse, so they ended up calling the game 'BRIDGE'! (source: Lonely Planet)

GREECE: IN BARS AND RESTAURANTS

When you are at a tavern or a bar you might be given a drink or a sweet and all you have to do is to thank the giver, or say cheers (yamas) and then you basically do not have to touch what you have been offered. Many a times have I been told how holidaymakers have forced themselves to drink the ouzo or eat the sweet in order not to be rude, but the fact is that all you have to do is to say thanks and maybe have a sip and a tiny bite.
When yawning or picking your teeth you should cover your mouth.
White wine or retsina is often mixed with Coca Cola.

Istanbul in Turkey has spread to both sides of the Bosporus Straight and thus spans two continents.

Thanks Evergreen, I think it's important to know the customs and what they expect.  So this means we are not going to run up to someone and put our palm in their face and say:  "Talk to the hand".....Just good to know....lol

DO'S & DON'TS IN GREECE!

You should not stare too much at someone, especially not children, as you may pass on the Evil Eye to that person.

The rudest gesture is to thrust the palm of your hand in front of someone's face. Do not attempt to do this even jokingly!!!

The modern Santorini looks like a crescent shaped island and forms a long inner bay called “Caldera” which is regarded the largest on the earth .The cliffs of the caldera rise from the sea to a height of about 300 km. Santorini has a total area of about 74 sq km .The island comprises of 13 villages most of which portray the true style and tradition of the place.

Ancient Greek civilization comprised of Southern Italy, the coastal areas of Turkey and the Black Sea, along with some colonies in North Africa, Southern France and Spain. Modern Greece is just a part of it.

I dont think so. Apparently the origin of that drink is unknown. However, yes, I understand it's popular in Turkish baths!!!
