Another show I have been watching is Footballer's Wives on BBC America. Not Womyn centered but there is a very good 'bitchy'Lesbian role. I am glued to the tv every Sunday.

I stand corrected! Guess I'll have to watch the movie again soon too because I've clearly forgotten Alison's role in it.

I've seen her in so many things that I somehow can't recall her in The Hours but (as you said) it was a small role.

At least I'm not yet forgetting MAJOR portions of things (no fear of brain degeneration at this point, I hope!).

What's your name and where do I know you from? :)

Brewmax, she played Meryl Streep's partner! It is a small roll and we only see her in the very beginning and the very end but it was Definately Allison Janney! I know my long legged women!!!LOL

I don't remember the train station scene, it's been a couple of years since I've seen it. Guess I'm gonna have to watch it again this weekend!

Anyone find it funny that this thread was supposed to be about the "L" Word and we've talked more about other stuff than it?

I checked Alison Janney's filmography & indeed she was in The Hours. She played a character called Sally Lester.
She was also the voice of "Peach" in Finding Nemo.
She has a long-long list of movies/series that she's been in.

Evergreen, I hit "post" before I intended too up there! I'm surprised you haven't seen it the movie . . . story of Virginia Woolf (played incredibly well by Nicole Kidman, whose make-up artist performed magic!).

Kathy, I think you're mistaken though about Alison Janney being in The Hours. Are you thinking of Julianne Moore? Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep were the three main character actors in the film. I could be wrong, but I don't ever remember Alison Janney being in it.

My favorite line is by Nicole/Virginia on the platform at the train station. . . be sure to look/listen for it!

And run, don't walk, to see this movie if you haven't. It is THAT good!

Evergreen. It is a VERY "talky" movie. My friend Lynn and I watched it together because Janice cannot sit still through that kind of movie. It's a little hard to figure out the relationships between the 3 time periods but it all comes together in the end. If you can sit thru it, it is well worth it. The casting is amazing as is the acting. Terrific movie. Let me know how you like it!

Actually Anne M, we didn't really enjoy the start of season 1 either. It took us about 5 episodes to get into it.

We shall watch out for Bad Girls on BBC Canada.

J&K: Was The Hours a movie or a TV special?

I do not want the L Word to return to the first season kind of shows. It was boring until the last 3 episondes. I liked last season. It finally got juicy. It gave something to look forward to on Sundays.

Anyone who has BBC America should start to watch Bad Girls. I think you can get it on DVD from netflix. Then you will be caught up when she season starts. I it is juicy too.

Janice & Kathy: I think it returns at the end of January...........

Oh yes, Allison Janney! What a character she is? She really "clicks" with Ellen & we love to watch her on that show.

Thanks Evergreen. I am always the eternal optimist. I also want the "L-Word" to return to it's former greatness. I have great hope for this next season. I like Cybill Shepherd and have always been a great fan of Marlee Matlin. She and Mary-Louise Parker were my favorites on West Wing - Not to discount the statuesque Allison Janney - no surprise I have a thing for those long legs LOL.

Does anyone know when the new season is to premier?

Strange that, after thinking/saying so many negative things about last season's L Word, one goes searching for news on what is to be next season!!! I guess there is a hope that it returns to it's promise of season 1.

Here's a few facts/gossip I have found, mostly at the "L-Word On Line" website.

-The ugly theme song has been pulled due to copyright issues. GREAT (We used to like the season 1 intro music, odd but different)

-Hallelujah, our all time favourite Marina is supposed to be back for 2 episodes. Just enough time for her to swoop in & steal Jenny's girlfriend (I'm assuming it's not Max!!)

-Cybill Shepherd will play Bette's boss. A married woman who starts questioning her sexuality.

-Marlee Matlin will have an interest in Bette.

-I guess we all knew that Carmen will not be returning but there is to be another Latino interest for Shane.

All for now "L Fans" & "not so L Fans"
