I can answer this question you asked a few posts ago.  At least I can answer for myself & Cindy.

When only a part of a group is able to partake in something it separates that group. 

One of the many reasons why Cindy & I spend our very limited & hard earned vacation funds on the Olivia trips is that we as lesbians/gay women are able to feel equal to everyone around us.  All of the time in our everyday lives, we are not able to do this as we are not able to be completely out. 

From something as simple as not being able to join into a simple workday conversation about what people did with their spouses over the weekend to being denied the right to marry. While I suppose many can say that we make that choice not to be out, I believe that it is what many of us still need to do (as we have talked about often on this forum).

So, for Cindy & I to feel a part of one group or another by virtue of what entertainment we qualify for on this Olivia vacation, is not what I would have ever expected.  This was a complete surprise to me that this would have been put into place and I have taken the time to send my thoughts on this to Olivia.

Let me make it clear that it would not matter which performer that it was or what event etc. No one should feel separate at any time, but it most certainly should not happen here.

So...this turn of events does upset me!   I understand that it may not be upsetting to others, but it is to Cindy & myself  and as you can see to others also.

I might add that I do believe that Olivia is wonderful in welcoming all opinons about this and for that I am grateful.  I will continue to be happy that we are going on this cruise.

Well, then, I guess anyone who wants a shot at seeing her ought to sign up before the deadline and cross their fingers, grab their lucky charms and hope for the best!  

I'm still betting that those who don't get to see K.D. will still get to see some great entertainment and have a grand time.  Of course, if you've heard otherwise from Olivia, I'm sure you'll let us know that, too.

Hey Everyone!!   (What took ya so long? )

Northstar aka Lodestar here..   After about a month and 2 requests, I finally got accepted to the Lounge again!!  Ta -Da!!  Probably because I still don't have my loins girded quite right   :D  

My gal and I are among those who booked  this cruise sight unseen back in April. This'll be our first Olivia cruise...(gotta be better than that tug-boat- of- a- cruise to the Bahamas in '91 that listed to one side the whole way out of Maimi  *chuckle* )   ..even then we made jokes about it.

I am glad to hear all the voicing of opinions here.  It is a drag that k.d. lang is only scheduled for the one performance to date.   The entertainment promo page touts that k.d. will be joined by a "star-studded line up of Olivia signature performers"    And that (quote) "we will be blown away by the line up [Olivia is ]  building for this trip including the ever-funny comedian Kate Clinton".(unquote)   *chuckle*   I say " Bring ... it.....ON!"

(If the gal and I ever come out of our room  ...... *grin*  )...we endeveavor to have a blast, regardless of the entertainment or lack there of.....but  *scratching chin*, ...it is alot of dough to shell out sight unseen.  As a firsttimer I have no expectations  (so long as it doesn't list to one side all the way to Tortola...just kidding!!).....After this cruise...my perspective ..as well as my expectations...may indeed change.   By all means, everyone...let Olivia know how you feel about this!!    

Perhaps not probable based on history, but it actually IS possible. . . and, if not, perhaps the other half of the passengers will get to see an equally awesome entertainer/show.  The fact of the matter is that we just don't know, do we? 

I'd suggest going to the "Ask Jeri/Jill" thread or the thread on entertainment requested to raise concerns about this situation if you really feel strongly about it and want answers.  Olivia does hear and listen. . .

There is no possibility of another show. KD does not do them. Last cruise she was on she did 2 shows in 2 different ports.

Disagreeing and/or having opposing views is a good thing when it creates constructive dialogue and broadens awareness or offers alternatives to our ways of thinking.  Could a second show be added at some point?  Heck, yes!  ANYTHING could happen.  Every day something unexpected happens. . .

I certainly appreciate and fully understand the folks who are upset and feel as if they may be cheated out of something they feel they paid for and deserve. I certainly understand and appreciate why some women will hold off on booking the cruise until they know all the facts and entertainment lineup.   I just have not seen or heard anything about what the other 850 passengers may be treated to, or what the other entertainment will be, or anything else about this cruise other than what has been publicly displayed and have chosen a "wait and see" optimistic attitude at this point.   Not sure why that seems to have upset some so.
