this is not a prison sentence...at the resorts we have to wear wristbands...it's no biggy!

best thing to do is have the wristband put on loose enough that you can slip it off if you need/want to...that's what we do at the resorts!

Olivia has to try to be as fair as possible to try and accommodate 2100 guests...each with their own agenda

many of us would love to do the 2nd show (yes that's the one we normally do...but it was 1st come...1st serve) but there is no way that everyone would fit in the showroom at onetime

I know I for one am so looking forward to this cruise...no matter what...because I'm very appreciative of where I am today...and Olivia is a very big part of that!!!

Too bad they are not removable. There are several shows we have no intention of attending and we would have been willing to do a temporary swap so people could go with friends.

According to Jeri U. at O, the wristbands are to be worn 24/7, which is ridiculous to me. All this time based upon O's 10/26/12 email blast indicating dining was changed to open seating and those that had requested early dinner would be assigned the late show. Well, that is just not true for everyone according to Jeri, cause once they maxed out the late show assignments based upon when reservations were made, then you were defaulted to 1st show whether you requested early dining or not. Speaking for myself, I am not happpy about this especially since going thru a similiar situation on the 35th Anniversary Cruise. Bottom line is to try and switch with someone and how to do that is not clear right now because the wristbands are attached to your wrist on check in day. Trying to find out now if they are detachable which allows exchanging. I just found out YESTERDAY that my roommate and I are assigned 1st seat showing and we thought all this time we would have 2nd show as indicated by our original request, SURPRISE!! Typical of how things are done. So anyone want 2 early show assignments? Let me know if you are willing to exchange.

The following was in my response to my email to Jeri earlier today..

..They are made of Tyvex and are not removable. We had hoped to print show times on everyone’s ship card but that couldn’t be accommodated by Holland America’s card system.

Because of all the amazing artists and special guests joining us, we need to be sure everyone has a seat and can enjoy the shows. In order for this to happen, we have to make sure guests are going to their assigned shows.

Unlike the bench style seating on previous HAL ships we’ve chartered, this ship has movie theater style seats. In the past, we could ask guest to squish and snuggle in really close together to make room. That isn’t an option here.

We know this is different than than what guests are use to, but we know everyone will be understanding and will work with us on this … these trips are historical and are going to be AMAZING!

Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything more.

OK everyone lets sit tight I went to the "horses mouth" and emailed Jeri asking that the wristband issue be addressed here on this site. Maybe the wristbands are the plastic removable and we are all getting are feathers ruffled for nothing.

As far as wearing all week I took is as wearing them for all the shows.. I could of misunderstood and be wrong about my interpretation but hopefully we will find out soon ..

Lets all chill until we no for sure..

Bobbie I was just expressing my views and throwing some ideas out. If you took it as a personal attack as it wasn't meant to be. I have a hard time expressing my thoughts into words..

As far as waiting until now I was going by when I got the info/email from Olivia.

If anyone was offended that was not my intent, was just trying to make light of a situation we have no control of at this late point.

I agree paper bands would defiantly be a downer but think positive they are the most economical way and in the long run they would keep the expense of the cruise lower.

It's too late to do anything about whatever kind of wristbands will be used. This issue should of been addressed back when we were notified about them that way Olivia would of had time to find another way to make it fair for everyone to see the shows..

Enough said. Lets just have a good time and make the best of a bad situation if the wristbands aren't removable.. seaturtle

1. explain how it would be more economical and keep expense lower for us? how much is a roll of tickets vs wristband.

when they give us the daily schedule the night before, attach 2 tickets for that nights show. hand in a ticket when you go to the show. no ticket- can't get in. people can swap if they want to- only x amount of tickets would be given out for each show.

2. i just found out about it the night before i posted

3. YOU can just 'roll with it', but we are not gonna be happy. the write up said we had to wear it all week.

Other trips they have used tickets, which is far more reasonable. that way you could trade for a particular show. I am personally very disappointed in how they have done things. I am traveling with friends and now we have different seatings. This interferes with dinner arrangements and specialty resturant reservations as well.  I can't believe they have not been able to be fairer in the process.

janieL, wristbands were mentioned in some of the correspondence sent out by Olivia.

Everyone else expressing concern the reason for the wrist bands this Olivia trip is to give everybody a fair chance to see the shows. As the shows have such a awesome line up of entertainment it's only fair to give every one a chance. On other Olivia trips some people went to both shows taking up seats for those who hadn't scene them. While wristbands are a annoyance they are the quickest way of  getting people into the shows as if Olivia had a check list it would consume too much time and shorten the shows.

Olivia has given out removable plastic wristbands for other reasons like for the first time solos on past trips . Hopefully that is what will be done this time. Whatever method is used think positive and just go with the flow. I agree paper bands would defiantly be a downer but think positive they are the most economical way and in the long run they would keep the expense of the cruise lower.

I'm sure hoping it is removable also.  I really don't want to wear a paper wristband all week.
