Joyce - I don't see any reason to worry about the party you spent time working to help organize. 

JanieL - People on vacation often change plans. No one should feel obligated to do anything... We are all adults, who are capable of making the right choices for ourselves...

RFDiana - Speaking of choices - you are absolutely right! The more choices the better! There are TONS of things to do in Vancouver - so one more party just adds to the options and whatever people CHOOSE to do, they will likely have a blast! We are all on vacation, after all! LOL

Jana - As usual, you have a fabulous way of making astute observations about lesbians and what happens when this many of us end up in the same place! LOL

fyi...BOLDFest is a conference for Bold (older) lesbians and dykes taking place earlier in Sept in Vancouver http://www.boldfest.com/  (how cool!) and these are the folks co-sponsoring the party. i also checked out the venue and it sounds claustrophobic (crowded and small dance floor). Anyone from Vancouver have different impressions? would be nice to pay at the door...if it really is crowded we wouldn't go in.

I agree with Diana...we should be free to choose to go and do what we want to do...and not go out of guilt!

I and another woman did the pre-cruise party last time we left out of Vancouver...some who RSVP'd never showed...and other who didn't RSVP showed up...still everyone had a great time...and no guilt trips to anyone...that's just the way these things go!!

I do agree with you janieL that if people RSVP'd to go to the party...they should make every effort to go!  But being this party has only been planned for the last few weeks...there was never any guarantee that any more than those on the list would be going...you just never know

Olivia is a sponsor of BOLDFest...and there is no reason that if a late opportunity came up...not to do it. There's an all day concert happening in Stanley Park...any many people are choosing to go to dinner instead of either party...so the options are many!!!

Put a group of Lesbians together...and this is what happens...always has!

OK...now back to focusing on the real reason we are all here on the connect site...the Majestic Alaska Cruise!!!

I usually don't way in on this board but i feel it is right to support Joyce for her efforts on our behalf.

She went above and beyond to put this party together for us and I believe All of us who RSVP'd should honor that

commitment. I've put together events for others too enjoy and it's the coordinators Name and reputation that takes

the sting if people don't show up.  Remember how disappointed everyone was when Jeri said there would be NO party at the host

hotel?... Let's not split hairs here, this is not a court of law. It was more than implied that Olivia, at that time had  No plans for a pre-

sail party, at the hotel or any other place or it would have been posted. This party was posted! That's all fine. But Joyce picked up

the ball  and created an event for us. Yes, it's nice to have options, so i suggest if you want to go to BOLDfest and you had a

commitment to Joyce, go to Celebrities and attend BOLDfest either before or after but not INSTEAD of.

I don't know Joyce but i think it's important to support your sister who heard you all wanted a party and is making one happen. 

Don't embarrass her because of her good deed.

Yep, agreed! Again, we aren't usually party "attendees" and that works for us, but BOLDFest is a lure, plain and simple.

 The more options the better, yes? 

And it's true, it would be a simple matter for those who wish to do so, to attend both! That's what it's all about, eh? "Feel Free?"  

there is absolutely no reason why there can't be 2 pre-sail parties!

some will do both…some will do only one…and others will do none of the above!

if you all read back as to what Jeri was replying to...she was answering this question…"Is there going to be an official pre cruise get together at the Host hotel?"…and Jeri's answer was "We will not be hosting an Olivia Bon Voyage party or gathering at the host hotel for this sailing."

while that may look like a NO to absolutely everything…it was…plain and simple…a NO to a party at the host hotel!

so there's no reason why the party plans can't continue!

The more opportunities to meet our shipmates the better! 

First off, the party at Celebrities has not been being planned for over 2 months.
We were only informed of the possibility of it on Aug 10th (date of the original post), which is only a couple of weeks ago.
Tink is right, there is nothing wrong with having two different parties, as they are both different venues!
We are not going to either as we have plans to have dinner that evening with friends.

Maybe those who were not planning on attending the first party might like to attend this one? This one is clearly different in tone, and hours. Two parties surely shouldn't be a huge problem? 

We weren't planning on attending the first one, but do like the option this one provides, too. BOLDFest is something that interests us beyond a precruise party, though.
