Hi Diana....As an American born in Detroit, I had never tried a poutine. After moving to Canada, it took me a long time to try the yucky (my opinion) looking poutine. After trying it I was hooked. Fries go in the container first followed by the cheese, then gravy is poured on top, and that melts the cheese. Certainly not a healthy food, so I rarely indulge. Really don't knock it till you've tried it. Wink That can be your first French Canadian experience.  Big Smile Looking forward to seeing you again....soon,soon...

One place not far from Stanley Park and in the gay part of town is Olympic Greek Restaurant.  It was the only place that got to keep it's name during the 2010 Games because their fans rallied around them.  Great Greek food for an amazing price.  Not fancy, just fun.  It's on Denman and Nelson.

Hi, again: You are right: poutine is a not "west coast, rather a Quebec "delicasy" Smile BUT you can now buy it at Wendy's Restaurants in Canada. Also, New York Fries in Vancouver has poutine variations, including a spicy pulled pork version! There is an NYF at Granville Mall, 700 West Georgia maybe 6 blocks from the cruise ship dock.

Absolutely great ideas! Thank you all for the help. We are definitely doing Stanley Park, and Capilano Bridge (and the other attractions there). Now we'll have to look into the Gondola to the mountain!

We're also compiling a list of "must eat" places. LOL. Peaceful Restaurant, is one. Japadog is another. Neither are fancy, but both come highly recommended. I know (I think) the best Vietnamese is on the east side, so we hope to venture there and find some bahn mi, and pho..

I know poutine is not "west coast" food but the wife has never had any, so I'll be hunting for that too.

Maybe at some point we'll try a more upscale place, but for now we're into trying the local sorts of "fun foods."
