Just in case luggage restrictions are different for charters versus domestic flights, I asked Olivia Guest Services.

(I was actually more concerned re payment for the # of checked items)

Here's their reply:

Hi Julie,

Any luggage restrictions for our charter flights will be mentioned in the resort guide, which is in the process of being finalized. The resort guide will be emailed out to all guests later this week.

Thank you,

We are actually flying Spirit Air from Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale and have pre-paid for out bags.  On our charter flight, do we still have to pay for out bags, or has Olivia included that in our air fare?

Tanqueray50 you are fantastic. Thank you!

Now that's very useful! How the heck does one pack for a 3 week international holiday with only 23kgs? This is going to be amusing for sure.

Pack a gym bag in a suitcase? Oh geez.

Pack less and buy more after the resort... better get the credit card limit pushed up... awesome :)  sorted.

Okay..so I'm anal.....

I went to my travel account information on the Olivia website, they have the charter listed as SpirtAir. i went to the SpirtAir web site and found this:

Carry-On Baggage

Spirit Airlines customers may bring one (1) carry-on bag plus a personal item (such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop computer) on board at no charge.

  • A carry-on bag must fit under your seat or in the overhead bin.
  • Carry-on bag dimensions may not exceed 24 inches by 16 inches by 12 inches (61cm x 40.6cm x 30.5cm).
  • One (1) carry-on item is permitted in the aircraft cabin.
  • The following items are not counted as carry-on items: small handbag/pocketbook, overcoat, wrap, umbrella, walking stick, camera, binoculars, reading material for the flight, or food for consumption on board the flight.

Spirit may require that a carry-on item travel as checked baggage if the item cannot be safely stowed on a particular flight. Excess items will be charged according to checked baggage fees.

Checked Baggage

Fees apply for all checked baggage. All checked baggage fees are non-refundable and may be paid online at http://www.spiritair.com/ or at the airport. Spirit offers a discount for reserving space for your checked bag online.

Spirit Airlines can only guarantee the transportation of one (1) item as checked luggage per fare-paying customer at the airport. Additional bags are accepted only when reserved in advance online at http://www.spiritair.com/.

If not reserved, Spirit cannot guarantee that there will be space for additional bags and will not be held responsible for any additional items brought to the airport by the customer.

Standard Size and Weight and General Requirements

A standard checked bag is defined as a bag not exceeding 62 linear inches/158cm (length + width + height) in overall size and 50 pounds/23kg in weight.

Each checked bag must have identification on the outside of the bag. Spirit recommends placing identification tags inside luggage as well.

Excess Baggage and Maximum Limits

Any checked baggage that exceeds the standard size and weight limit is subject to excess baggage fees in addition to the standard checked bag fee.

We are supposed to be getting a final travel packet which gives us more information...I am hoping that if there are any luggage restrictions for the charter they will tell us in the packet. Delta is letting us take a 50 pound and a carry on...if they are only letting 25 pounds on the charter I am SCREWED....

Of course, you know I'm kidding BooGirl!

I believe it is 44 lbs & normally carryon doesn't get weighed in. I think 44 lbs is a lot...at least 2 bathing suits & a pair of shorts.

Looking forward to meeting you at the Alhambra!!

Does anyone know what the luggage weight is for this Columbus Isle trip.  Someone thought it was 44 pounds, but is that for just 1 bag or is that the total weight?  44 pounds doesn't sound like a lot....guess it will just be shorts and T-shirts in my suitcase!
