Ziplining isn't listed on the Club Med's excursions online.  Does anyone know what's up with that?  We'd really like to try ziplining on this trip.  Looking at this company.  http://www.toursinixtapazihuatanejo.com/zipline-canopy.html  Anyone with more info?  Anyone interested in joining us?  Big Smile

Hi Qualunaq!  Great you beat the system and got a message thru!   Women and horses in paradise...that seems a good theme!

HI Equiger...

I don't know what is going on with the message system but I am sure it is a problem at my end... I was just trying to say that it's great to spend summers on horseback and it will be great to swap some stories with you in Ixtapa! I can't believe the number of riders and owners heading to Ixtapa...

What do we gotta do to make a gallop across a beach a reality?

 1 month!!!

Jessie, I am a photographer too and would LOVE to get out into Zihua and/or Ixtapa to see Mexico through the locals' eyes.  I tend to shoot more "nature shots"  (can't wait to see the iguanas!!), as well as local culture-stuff.  I do have a mobility issue but will have my Travel Scooter with me so my partner and I can get out & about.  Have you been there (we have not)?  I'm sure the Olivia folks or the ClubMed staff can direct us to the best places.  Any interest in actually planning our own photo "excursion"?  Maybe if we start it, other photogs will step out of the shadows and join us....

When taking the resort trips we sign up for the excursions when we get there.  On cruises we sign up about 30 days ahead of time.  I did check out some horseback riding excursions and will post the web sites on here.  Not sure if Olivia and Club Med will be offering any, but if not, we can book them independently.

Hi Ladies!

Im new joining in here......this is one of my first posts to the group.  I will be joining you in ixtapa in 2010...it will be my first olivia ever!   I will be traveling solo also.     Im looking forward to meeting couples and solos and really looking forward to the excursions.    Could some of the experienced travelers tell me when we start getting more information about the trips?   they said there were emails about the trip that come out shortly before=what to pack, any special "dress up nights or themes", etc..... but I have not seen anything yet.  I am ready to start packing, even before xmas!     I would love to do the dolphin swim and snorkeling, possibly zip line-not afraid of HEIGHTS, but am afraid of the "free fall " feeling, however i still want to do it!     I would also love the horseback riding....i know someone was looking into it.  cant imagine there isnt one available!

Hi Diane!

Both zip-lining and swimming with dolphins are available as excursions & you can sign-up at the Club Med.

As far as windsurfing in Ixtapa…I don't think it is offered as an excursion or at the resort.  I know it's offered at Club Med Cancun so maybe it's not good here.  But they do have sailing on small catamaran sail boats that are included in your stay if you want!

Also would love to do some windsurfing.  Anyone know where near our resort????

We'd be interested in this also.  These are a few of the ones I checked out.  I trust Frommers' recommendation, but I would also love to hear from someone has experienced this first hand.  I remember Sleddog saying she was going to check this excursion out for us.  I'm sure she'll be back posting next week.

Margaret & K.C,

Hey, has anyone ridden horses on the beach in Ixtapa?  Sounds fun!  Any details or suggestions?

We're getting excited for the Ixtapa trip, and have checked out Club Med's listing of typical excursions.  Here's the link.   http://www.clubmed.us/cm/resorts-north-america-mexico-ixtapa-pacific-excursions-our-excursions_p-115-l-US-v-IXTC-a-000024-d-000006-r-7-ac-vo.html

What I noticed was that there is no Zip-Line tour offered through Club Med.  I know on the last Ixtapa trip some of the ladies were talking about doing a Zip-Line tour on their own through this company.  http://www.toursinixtapazihuatanejo.com/zipline-canopy.html.  It costs about $50 per person to do this tour.  Anyone else interested in flying through the Mexican canopy, screaming their lungs out with the wife and I?

If any of you ladies who did this tour last year have any information about this tour, I'd love to hear it.

Eagerly anticipating Ixtapa!

Here’s what it says in the Ixtapa Resort Guide:

Booking excursions

A variety of exciting optional excursions are offered by the Club Med Excursion office. You will be able to sign up for excursions upon your arrival at the resort. Excursions include tours such as Zihuatanejo Shopping & Sightseeing, Dolphin Experience, Sunset Cruises and Zip Line. When you arrive at the resort, visit the Excursions Office to sign up. Forms will be accepted until midnight on arrival day. Excursions will be filled at random so all guests will have the same chance to get the excursion(s) of their choice, no matter what time they complete their forms. If you would like to be on a specific excursion with friends, be sure you staple your forms together and indicate your preferences. On Monday at 12 noon, names will be posted for each excursion. If there is a discrepancy and changes are needed, please see the Excursion Manager before 8 p.m., otherwise, your account will be charged and the cancellation policies will apply. If there are spaces left on any of the trips after this process, you will be able to sign up at the Excursions office. All excursions and ground transportation are provided by contractors that are independent of Club Med and Olivia. Therefore, as previously stated in our contract, Olivia and Club Med are not liable for any act, or failure to act, by any third party independent contractor. Please note that gratuities are always appreciated. If you feel that the guide and/or driver for your shore excursion did a good job, the recommended gratuity is $3 per person for a half-day tour and $5 for a full-day tour.

We have never had a problem getting excursions at resorts – or for that matter on ships!
