    Jodie Comes Out

Those three amazing words, that we thought we might never get to write, are now scrawled on websites and newspapers across the globe. The moment has finally arrived. Like Ellen’s “Yep, I’m gay.” Jodie Foster’s recent acknowledgment of her life partner in a public speech marks a watershed moment not just in the entertainment world but also in society at large. Of course, like another of our favorite classy actresses, Lily Tomlin, Foster in recent years has not particularly been IN the closet, anyway. She has always been articulate about her (understandable) refusal to discuss her private  life — most recently in Manohla Dargis’s smart profile for The New York Times which begins with the astute observation: “The usual take on Jodie Foster is that she doesn’t like to talk about herself, but all you have to do is watch her movies to see she’s been talking to us all along.”

There are a million blog and news items on the topic but we’d like to draw your attention to a wonderful little decade-old film by Pratibha Parmar exploring Foster as an icon for lesbians, JODIE: AN ICON (in which lesbian comedian Lea de Laria utters the crassly memorable sentiment: ““If I was Hannibal Lecter, it wouldn’t be her liver I’d want to eat.”). So, forward this link to your local LGBT Film Festival and maybe you’ll get a chance to see the film soon at a theater near you!?

I have been a fan of Jodie Foster way back in the old days when she was that little tomboy, in all those Gunsmoke episodes, I was just waiting for her to finally come out, ND I so happy. Ms Foster has always been one of my favorites I guess it comes from watching her grow up in T.V movies, bht Big screen and all. But like I said I love her ever since she was say 6 years old.

 Now the speculation is over.
