  •    I was going to write my next "Tech for the Rest of Us" post on  troubleshooting frequent IT issues we all face, such as printing or setting up your wireless network. When I came to that sage piece of advice, "get to know your local IT pro", I realized- why wait until you're in trouble. You should get to know your IT person because they are just that, a PERSON.

IT Pros are the unsung heroes that make your work life run smoothly. Let's face it, if you're reading this at work, you have an IT professional to thank. Not to mention that IT folks are damn fun people. While they may come off a little more shy than say your friendly administrative assistant/ goddess but, chances are, they're just really, really busy... making you look good, or at least proficient.

So go ahead gals, march over and introduce yourself. Even better, bring cookies.. or beer.. or both. You'll thank me for it later.

Although, thinking what I do for a living is very simple, senior firewall/security engineer for a fortune 50 company most people are intimidated by that.  What most people don't understand is that I don't know the first thing about a personal computer.  Does this blow your mind?  It shouldn't.  The work I do all day long has to do with the wires dangling outside the office building.  I never get any closer then a closet on the first floor of a building.  Although, I have a lot of interaction with customers all day long most of them are senior engineers in other companies as well as directors, vice presidents etc.  So when you go out and thank your local IT person don't forget about the ones you never see behind the scenes.  Big Smile
