  • Throughout the weekend and through Election Day we have been featuring audio announcements from supporters of the No on 8 campaign on the homepage of our site and in post as well. Here is the complete collection of audios for the 'Voices Against Prop. 8' project we ran this weekend. Thank you to all of the people who lent their voice to help the cause, and please please if you haven't voted already in California make sure you vote NO on Proposition 8.

    Here are the audios:

From The Executive Editor of Lez Get Real, Julie Phineas:

    "Gay marriage is:

    - Not about schools.
    - Not about religion.
    - Not about sex.

    It’s about people.

Marriage is a basic human right.

When gay marriage was legalized in California this year, my wife and I exchanged vows in a civil service at the County Clerk’s office in Norwalk, CA on June 17, 2008 in front of our family, friends, and the media.

Our relationship was cast into the spotlight and many people have asked us how we feel.

We have noticed a difference in our lives, and the bottom line is that we finally feel equal to our straight peers.

Now, we can share the responsibilities related to caring for our children, and have rights to provide long term care for each other.

Before, we had no security, no obligation, no rights.

Since we got married, visits to the children’s doctor are no longer demeaning and paying our taxes while having equal rights makes us feel like equal Americans.

Don’t undo our “I do”. Don’t take away our rights. Don’t take away the rights of tax-paying Americans. Please. Vote NO on Proposition 8."

Julie Phineas Julie Phineas is a work at home mom of 2 who lives in Southern California. You can find out more about her by visiting her page on MySpace.

From Gay Poet, Actor and Activist, Emanuel Xavier:

"Hi, I'm Emanuel Xavier and I am a Brooklyn based poet and actor.

I am here to ask all of you to please consider voting 'No' on Proposition 8.

It is important for us to unite and celebrate our diversity in order to start building a bridge between our differences. The queer population is made up of our brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, sons and daughters. In the end, we are all part of the same struggle for a better America .

There is enough hatred in the world for us to limit who is allowed to love one another. We only want to run past the prejudice and feel the wind across our chests. Discover lands starving for diversity and star filled skies awaiting to shine for us because true love has no boundaries and our angels have wings too.

Please say 'Yes' to freedom and equality and vote 'No on Proposition 8."

Emanuel Xavier is a Brooklyn based poet and actor. He is author of the novel 'Christlike', the poetry collection 'Americano' and editor of 'Bullets & Butterflies: queer spoken word poetry' and 'Mariposas: A Modern Anthology of Queer Latino Poetry.' He has been featured on 'Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry' and the feature films 'The Ski Trip' and 'The Cult of Sincerity.' From LesbianGamers.com:

"Hi. I'm Tracy from LesbianGamers.com, and I'm Angela from LesbianGamers.com.

We think you should vote no on Prop. 8 because the rest of the world is looking at the people of California to show what is right and just in the world.

We are in Australia and we have no legal rights to a commitment ceremony, marriage, adoption, or any other basic human relationship rights. California was the first state to legalize inter-racial marriage leading to other states to eventually follow.

Gays and lesbians of the world who currently have NO rights need you to speak up for them and vote NO on Prop. 8. THIS is your chance to shape California, and the rest of the world, into an equal and understanding place.

Don't miss your chance to do what's right... please Vote No on Prop 8."

From A Contributor of Lez Get Real, Patricia:

"Hi my name is Patricia and I'm asking you to vote No on Proposition 8.

This isn't a discussion about whether homosexuality is moral or immoral. It has nothing to do with the views on it being natural or abnormal. This has to do with rights.

It has to do with the fact that you would be viewing another person as a second class citizen.

In regards to protecting children, children aren't being taught this at school. Children are taught at home. They repeat what they are taught at home. Most of the time this has to do with hate and bigotry. Teachers are not responsible for that. This has to do with what goes on at home.

If you're saying that Domestic Partnership is the same, it's not. Please look into that. Marriage is not the same as Domestic Partnership.

Please vote No on Proposition 8. If you vote Yes, you will be stating that a lot of people are second class citizens. So please, vote No on Proposition 8. Thank you."

p.Johanna p.Johanna is a single lesbian who lives in Southern California. You can find out more about her and view her photos by visiting her page on MySpace.

From A Contributor of Lez Get Real, Brittany Marie:

"Hey it's Brittany Marie from Lez Get Real. And well, vote No on Prop 8. Don't believe the lies, and don't believe the scare tactics. Vote for equality, not hate."

Brittany Marie Brittany Marie is a CSUN graduate with her degree in T.V. Production. To find out more about her visit her page on MySpace

From A Contributor of Lez Get Real, Jenime:

"Hi this is Jenime and I'm voting no on Prop. 8 'cause I'm an American... and I grew up in an America where the sixties had already happened, and the separate water fountains had already been proven to be separate but inequal.

And I thought all the adults had this already figured out!

But by the time I become an adult, I have to see that homosexuals are put in the same situation where they're treated like... forget about that they're not treated like American citizens, they're not treated like human beings; and as an American I don't stand for that.

So Vote No on Prop 8., and don't let anybody tell you that America is for discrimination.

Jenime Jenime is an artist living in the SF bay area. You can watch her musings and ravings any time by visiting her channel on YouTube.

    Thank you for your support!!!
