We here at Olivia have the privilege of hearing so many affirming and life-changing stories from women who travel with us. From the women warriors who paved the way, to those who find gratitude in being out for the first time in their lives, we want to SHARE these stories with YOU.
The following is a testimonial from Doreen Lopez, regarding her experience on her very first Olivia trip eight years ago.
“Thoughts are rushing back about my very first Olivia trip eight years ago. It was a roll of the dice to travel alone, thousands of miles from home (and my comfort zone), with a long list of concerns firmly set at the forefront of my mind. Heading to the boarding area of my final connecting flight in Puerto Rico, I walked into a sea of Olivia Family heading to Punta Cana who quickly eliminated so many of my fears. Before we even touched down on the island several friendships were made; some still stand to this day. The time spent on the island was spectacular – sure there was great food (who can forget the white chocolate bread?), an open bar (I am craving a cold Presidente!), a warm ocean that can envelope one for hours, the talented entertainers who highlighted the evenings and dancing to the point of exhaustion – but it was the people that made choosing Olivia one of the best travel decisions I have made. When I returned home, I realized that Olivia’s motto “Feel Free” was appropriately penned. This may sound incredibly superficial, but that week on the island was the first time I can remember not feeling like a minority. We live in a world where gender, sexual orientation, age, creed, income, marital status, ethnicity, size, language, education, profession, physical limitations and countless other boxes categorize us, and yet none of these existed on my Olivia trip. We were just a bunch of people having one hell of a good time – Feeling Free. I am so looking forward to my trip in 6 weeks and getting to know more of my extended family.”
